Moorland, waterfalls and tree-hotel game viewing in the high Aberdare range.
The Aberdare mountains rise to 4,001 m at Ol Donyo Lesatima, a wet montane wilderness of bamboo forest, podocarpus and high-altitude moorland. Aberdare National Park protects rare bongo antelope, melanistic leopards, forest elephant, giant forest hog and waterfalls including the 300 m Karuru Falls.
The famous tree-hotels — Treetops and The Ark — offer a unique safari experience: animals come to you at floodlit waterholes through the night. Our 2-day Aberdare itineraries combine a tree-hotel stay with a moorland walk.
June–March; the moorland gets very wet April–May.
