Mount Longonot National Park sits 60 km northwest of Nairobi in the Great Rift Valley — 52 km² of protected volcanic terrain surrounding a mountain that last erupted in the 1860s and now holds a dense forest inside its caldera.

We leave Nairobi at 6am in a private tour van or 4×4 Land Cruiser, hike to the crater rim (2–3 hrs round trip) with the option to complete the full rim circuit (4–5 hrs, 13.5 km). After lunch on the mountain we transfer to Lake Naivasha for a relaxing afternoon add-on — boat safari, poolside lounging or the Olkaria geothermal spa.
