Lukenya Hill Baboon Cliff Rock Climbing (Half-Day)

1 Day

Nairobi

Certified guides

Escape the city traffic and discover the thrill of outdoor rock climbing on the majestic cliffs of Lukenya Hill. Rising dramatically above the Athi-Kapiti plains, Lukenya is an ancient gneiss inselberg recognised as Kenya’s premier historical and modern climbing destination. Managed under strict preservation guidelines, this wild conservancy lets climbers scale scenic crags while giraffes, zebras and impalas roam directly below.

Just 40 km southeast of Nairobi (a 45–60 minute drive down the Mombasa Highway), Lukenya is the ultimate half-day getaway for families, absolute beginners and holidaymakers who want a genuine outdoor experience without a full-day expedition. Our packages use an optimised 3-hour climbing window structured for children from 4 years, absolute amateurs and intermediate climbers. We focus exclusively on Baboon Cliff — a beautifully bolted, beginner-friendly sport-climbing zone with massive, ladder-like holds.

Two departure options are offered. Option 1 — “Little Lizards” Family Climbing Day (Mornings): Rainbow Country (5.6) and Lemon Squeezy (5.7) for confidence, then Sleazy Greasy and Mambo Mamba (5.7) for skill progression, ending with fun climbing games. Option 2 — Athi Ascent Beginner & Intermediate Experience (Early Mornings): beginner top-roping on Viti Vipi (5.7), intermediates on Heebie Jeebies (5.8) and Dapper Flapper (5.8+) with smearing and route-finding.

Pricing per person. East African citizens/residents: Solo KES 8,900 · 2–3 pax KES 7,300pp · 4+ pax KES 6,300pp. Non-residents: Solo KES 9,700 · 2–3 pax KES 8,300pp · 4+ pax KES 7,300pp. Transport to and from Nairobi is not included but can be organised on request.
