Packing Checklist

Nairobi – Sirimon Gate – Old Moses Camp (3300M Elevation)

Accommodation: Old Moses Camp

 

Morning: Departure from Nairobi

Start your day with a pick-up from your hotel and transfer to the bus station. From there, board a 10-seater shuttle van for the journey to Nanyuki town.

Midday: Lunch and Shopping in Nanyuki

Arrive in Nanyuki and enjoy lunch. This is also a great opportunity to shop for supplies or hire hiking gear, if needed. Along the way, you’ll cross the equator, offering a perfect photo opportunity before continuing to Sirimon Gate (2,650m).

Afternoon: Trek to Old Moses Camp

At Sirimon Gate, begin your trek through the montane forest, bamboo, and giant heather zones. As you ascend, the scenery transitions into the high-altitude moorland. The hike to Old Moses Camp (3,300m) takes about 3–4 hours, covering a gain of 650m in elevation.

Evening: Dinner and Overnight at Old Moses Camp

Arrive at Old Moses Camp, where you’ll enjoy dinner and rest for the night. The camp offers stunning views and sets the tone for the adventure ahead.

Old Moses Camp – Shipton Camp (4200M Elevation)

Accommodation: Old Moses Camp & Shipton Camp

 

Morning: Start the Trek Uphill

After breakfast, begin your trek by following the track uphill. At the junction, fork to the right and continue climbing.

Mid-Morning: Water Break and Ontulili River Crossing

Pause for a water break before resuming the trek. Cross the Ontulili River and take the path to the right, which contours through the moorland.

Afternoon: Liki North River and Mackinder’s Valley

Cross the Liki North River and continue uphill towards Mackinder’s Valley. Along the way, enjoy panoramic views of the valley leading to Shipton’s Camp.

Evening: Arrive at Shipton’s Camp

After a trek of 7 to 8 hours, arrive at Shipton’s Camp, a surreal location nestled below towering peaks and glaciers. The area is home to a resident population of rock hyrax and sunbirds, adding charm to the breathtaking scenery.

Night: Dinner and Overnight Stay

End the day with a hearty dinner and a restful overnight stay at Shipton’s Camp, preparing for the next leg of your adventure.

Shipton Camp (4200M) – Peak Pt Lenana (4985M) – Old Moses Camp (3300M)

Early Morning: Departure to Pt Lenana

Start your day with a cup of coffee before departing at 3:00 am to reach Pt Lenana (4,985m) in time for the stunning African sunrise. The climb begins on frozen, loose small stones, followed by a rocky track with some minor scrambling.

Morning: Summit Pt Lenana

The climb to Pt Lenana takes approximately 3-4 hours, and if the weather is clear, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of Mt. Kilimanjaro on the horizon, adding to the exhilaration of reaching the summit.

Mid-Morning: Descend to Shipton Camp

After soaking in the views, descend back to Shipton Camp for a well-deserved full breakfast and a short rest.

Afternoon: Final Descent to Old Moses Camp

Continue your descent to Old Moses Camp (3,300m), a journey that should take about 5 hours, assisted by gravity and the feeling of accomplishment.

Evening: Dinner and Overnight at Old Moses Camp

After the descent, enjoy a hearty dinner and relax at Old Moses Camp. Spend the night at the camp, reflecting on the day’s achievements and resting for the journey ahead.

Old Moses Camp – Nanyuki Town – Nairobi

Accommodation: Old Moses Camp (Breakfast)

 

Morning: Breakfast and Descend to Sirimon Gate

After breakfast, begin your descent along the track through bamboo to Sirimon Gate. This portion of the trek offers a scenic and peaceful journey downhill.

Midday: Transfer to Nanyuki Town

At Sirimon Gate, you will meet your taxi/minivan for the transfer to Nanyuki town, where you will connect to a shuttle van bound for Nairobi.

Afternoon: Arrival in Nairobi

You will arrive in Nairobi by 1:00 pm, concluding your trekking adventure.
