A near-perfect volcanic cone with a forested crater rim circuit above the Rift Valley.
Mt. Longonot rises 2,776 m above the Great Rift Valley, a young stratovolcano with a deep, forested crater. The classic hike climbs steeply to the crater rim then loops the full 7 km around it, with continuous views over Lake Naivasha, Suswa and the Mau Escarpment.
The trail is rugged, exposed and dusty — pure Rift Valley walking. The full circuit takes 4–5 hours and rewards you with one of the most photographed panoramas in Kenya.
Year-round; clearest views June – September
